8 Powerful Questions Every Overachiever Must Ask Themselves

Being a maximizer is an incredible skill to have, and wanting to experience more in life is not something you should ever apologize for. The key is simply ensuring we are focusing on the right things, the things that make us feel truly fulfilled.

For an overachiever, effort and ambition aren't the challenge; we have those in spades. We stack achievements and aim high, but we often find ourselves depleted and burnt out. We eventually realize that the real work isn't about doing more; it’s about asking ourselves quality questions that shift our focus toward living purposefully.

True purpose is determined by our inner compass, not by the beliefs or expectations of others. It’s about making our "inner cheerleader" proud. To help you realign, here are eight questions to navigate your journey:

The Questions

  1. Just because I can, does it mean it's my assignment? Does this new project truly align with my goals, vision, and values, or is it something I should pass on?

  2. Am I growing as an individual? Am I challenging myself with intentional new skills that match my mission, or am I just accumulating titles?

  3. If I choose to rest for a day, will I question my worth?

  4. What would I pursue if failure was guaranteed to teach me something valuable?

  5. Do I have a pillar checklist? Do I have a way to reflect on my wins and losses at the end of the day to compete with myself, or am I busy comparing my life to others on social media and at work?

  6. Do I truly enjoy the life that I am building, or am I trying to impress others?

  7. In what areas of my life am I over-performing? Am I being honest about whether this is truly what I want?

  8. Who am I without the labels? Beyond being a Ph.D student, an entrepreneur, or a CEO.  How else would I describe myself to a close friend?

Know an overachiever who is running on empty? Send this their way, it might be the "permission to rest" they’ve been looking for.
